The cave was formed due to the geological process of subsidence of land along with vegetation on it to the bottom of the earth that occurred thousands of years ago. This collapse forms a sinkhole or sump that in Javanese is known as Luweng. That is what makes it unique because in the cave there is a mouth area of about 50 meters cave, often referred to as Luweng Jomblang.
It takes the ability to carry out Single Rope Technique (SRT) to enter this cave. SRT is a standard technique used to descend vertical caves by using a rope as a path used to go up and down a vertical place. Everyone who wish to do caving in this place should use special equipment based on the caving safety standard in a vertical cave and should also be accompanied by the experienced caving trainers.

Stop At: Ijen Crater, Banyuwangi 68454 Indonesia
Today is most hard day. You should wake up middle of night and our hiking crew and guide will arrange all transportation and safety equipment for you. They will give you briefing about the safety.
This is not the ordinary trip, you will spend your night and start hiking 3 Km of uphill and dusty road in cold air at 01.30 am!. Don’t expect this trip to be a light adventure. But it will provide you a valuable experience, you will see how local people make a living by mining sulfur, rough and tough job you ever seen before. Every second they inhale the volcanic gas and shouldered more than a hundred Kg of the sulfur stone. You will be grateful for who you are to be in this world at the present day. Just remember, this is outdoor adventure, where the weather and the wind blow direction will be very influential for most spectacular blue fire and sunrise in early morning. The best time is around June-September every year. During that time is summer season, clear and blue sky and strong enough wind blow to push volcanic gas away from the crater. Always follow your trekking guide instruction, wearing your gas mask correctly when you go down into the crater to see the Blue Fire. This trip is one of so many ways digging and exploring about marvelous Indonesia, quite hard sometimes, so i would like to use SAS British special force quote, “WHO DARES, WINS!”
