Itinerary

The Legong dance is often mentioned as the symbol of the grace and femininity among Balinese dances. This beautiful dance is usually performed by very young girls living in a palace under the protection of the king or some princes, and that the reason why they call it the Legong Keraton Dance or Legong of the Palace dance. The King Anak Agung Made Karna, an ancestor of the royal families of Ubud and Peliatan, during meditation for 40 days 40 nights at Yogan Agung temple in Ketewel, has seen celestial nymphs dancing this dance dressed in gold brocade. The Legong Keraton dance usually tells a story of the twelfth century, in which a princess called Rangkasari was kidnapped by King Lasem, and when the brother of the princess insisted that the king release her otherwise face war, the king was attacked by a raven bird symbolizing bad luck and in the end, the king Lasem was killed in the war. In this ancient classical dance, the movements of the dancers are intricately balanced with the rhythm of the Gamelan music. A part of this dance, other dances such as Baris Warriors dance, Oleg Tambulilingan bumblebees dance or Mask dance, etc. also performed (depend on the schedule of every day).
