Stop At: Sade Traditional Weaving Village, Rembitan, Sade, Lombok 83573 Indonesia
Weaving is found in Sukarare, south of Cakranegara. This is a village of traditional weavers and has been a part of Lombok’s Sasak culture for generations. The weaving style here has its unique style in creating the brightly patterned ‘Songket’ cloth (a Songket is considered a luxury product, traditionally worn during ceremonial occasions). The techniques, patterns and motifs have been handed down from generation to generation.
Standing out from the crowd is the village of Sade. Sade is a traditional Sasak village and is comprised of a series of houses made from buffalo dung and mud. The local ladies in this settlement weave lovely cloth that is used as scarves or for home decoration. The people of Sade have their traditions which vary from other areas of the island.
