Stop At: Borobudur Temple, Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Borobudur, Magelang 56553 Indonesia

Your English speaking guide and driver welcome you at around 08:30 hrs at your hotel in Yogyakarta before we leave via the most efficient route the city and enter the countryside around this Javanese city. First stop of the day is the world-renowned Borobudur: dating back to 800 A.D., this huge temple complex once felt into total decline when the influences of Buddhism start to decline, and power shifts took place in East Java. The temple was abandoned for many centuries, right after its completion, the excavation of this now UNESCO-protected site of importance laureled in a new era for the Borobudur, making it one of the most sought-after sights for Java explorers.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Candi Pawon, Desa Mendut, Magelang Indonesia

In the afternoon, we head over to lesser-known temples in the area. The Pawon and Mendut temple complex is assumed to have some form of correlation with the Borobudur yet this has never been fully proven.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Village / Village Candirejo, Candirejo Ungaran, Ungaran, Candirejo, Kec. Ungaran Bar., Kabupaten Semarang, Jawa Tengah 50513, Indonesia

After lunch (not included, own arrangement) we arrive at Candi Rejo, a local village that transcends its lineage of what Java used to be. You will be exploring the town and its residents by “Andong” (horse-drawn carriage) and bear witness of traditions that have withstood the test of time. The afternoon is further enriched with handicraft demonstrations, tasting local health drinks, and meet the farmer that stay true to authentic means to work their fields and plant / harvest their crop. Nothing is more as Indonesian as the Gamelan: a bamboo and wood-made instrument, synonymously with the sounds and culture of Indonesia. Guests will get a fast-track instruction on how to master this instrument under the guidance of a local master. Once the last sounds echo through the air, it is time to head back to Yogyakarta.
